2025 Florida Legislative Session: 

Specter of government shutdown in Florida as House, Senate clash over state budget

This was supposed to be the week House and Senate leaders met to bridge the gaps of their budget divide that has already sent the legislative session into overtime and seen accusations and insults hurled among GOP officials.

Instead, only the House came to the Capitol on May 13 – and only to extend the session to June 30.

That move, though, carries little weight since the Senate isn’t doing the same. The session, which was set to end May 2, has already been extended by both chambers to June 6.

Extending the session to June 30 “sends a clear message. If the Senate’s plan is to wait us out, then they will find us unmoved,” House Speaker Daniel Perez, R-Miami, told his chamber. “We will not be intimidated, and we will not be bullied.”

Each subpage provides information you can use and share. We assembled information from websites of other Florida nonprofits (including the ACLU of Florida, Equality Florida, Jacksonville NOW, 1000 Friends of Florida, and the League of Women Voters of Florida) and put it all in one place.

Each of these nonprofit entities:

• annually set legislative priorities aligned with their mission, 

• track bills filed or amended that impact the legislative priorities they have set--so you can find out what they are, where they are in the legislative process. To make it easier for you to find that bills that matter to you, we use bills on our tracker links page by issue and not by entity (though we do identify the entity)

• Usually summarize the bills in plain language and/or give thumbs up and thumbs down recommendations on passage.
